Malawi Professional Boxing Control Board (MPBCB) has cleared South Africa-based boxers, Ernest Msoliza and Bright Mdoka, to vie for the board’s sanctioned fights.
The boxers, who relocated to South Africa last year in search for greener pastures, were the subject of speculations over their eligibility for fights in Malawi.
Currently, Msoliza has dared Limbani Masamba for a national welterweight title fight next month at M1 Centre Point in Lilongwe.
The board’s spokesperson, Frank Chibisa, said the pair was still licensed by the board.
“You might be aware that professional boxing is a business, so the two left for South Africa to seek new boxing opportunities. However, they are still licensed by us. They are our boxers and eligible to contest for our belts,” he said.
Msoliza said he was now determined to face Masamba during the welterweight title.
“The clearance gives me a boost to concentrate on my preparations. I am just waiting to sign my contract,” he said.
On their debuts in South Africa last month, Mdoka lost to Marcel Botha of South Africa in an international middleweight contest with another South African, Brandon Naude, defeating Msoliza.
