Massa South-East hunt for glory

Lack of qualified coaches has been cited as the main factor affecting the development of football at the grassroots.

Malawi Schools Sports Association’s South-East Education Division (Seed) Chairperson, Blessings Kumitsonyo, made the remarks during the launch of a Football Association of Malawi (Fam) C-Licence coaching course at Zomba Police Primary on Monday.

“This is why we mobilised ourselves to have this course to equip sports teachers and lectures, among others, with the necessary tools so that our zone should be dominating these developmental events,” he said.

One of the participants, Samson Mawemphe, said the course had empowered him on how to drill youngsters.

The course facilitator, Stuart Mbolembole, was impressed with how the participants are responding.

“This course is crucial because these coaches first deal with players at the grassroots. So, we need coaches that will impart the right knowledge and technique to youngsters,” he said.

Fam Technical Director, John Kaputa, took time to motivate the participants, saying they should aim higher.

“We share the same background because I was also a teacher but I was dedicated when it came to courses, this is why I advanced,” he said.
