The Ovation Fusion Food Festival which debuted last year in August will this year be held in October, the organisers have said.
The organisers, Ovation Advertising, yesterday maintained that they are serious with the event and that the food festival is on without fail.
Ovation Advertising Head of Media and Public Relations Rodgers Siula said the country’s premier food and music festival has a great deal of diverse delicious treats on the menu this year.
The Ovation Fusion Festival will take place on the weekend of October 27 to 29 at the Bingu International Convention Centre’s square.
Siula highlighted that this year’s festival will make a difference utmost meaning and will build on the momentum the maiden version attained last year.
“This year, Ovation is extending its initiative to involve instrumental partners and we have a lot of exciting things lined up to make this year’s festival incredible, outstanding and attractive,” he said.
Siula described this festival as the only gathering that celebrates food with a fusion of music.
He said this year they have partnered Think Pink Malawi –a group that raises cancer awareness to organise the event.
Siula said among other things, Think Pink’s annual parade will wind up at the festival on October 28.
“At the festival, on this day which is a Saturday, there will be a wear a pink theme – from smoothies, candies, confectionaries to face painting and all the fun that comes with pink,” he said.
Other activities that will build up the festival this year include two challenges namely, Malawi Bake-Off contest and Bean twist.
In the baking challenge, Siula said amateur bakers will be showcasing their skills in leaking whilst in the Bean twist, people will compete to come up with a creative Malawian recipe for beans.
He said the prizes for the two challenges will be announced in due course.
The spokesperson said they are also working on bringing an international act.
Last year, the festival was held at the same venue but was poorly patronised.
Asked why they did not stick to the month of August as a matter of identity, Siula said various factors influenced their change to October.
“After reviewing last year’s event, we thought of shifting to October. As I indicated earlier, last year was a learning process and this year, we want it to be the best.
Last year, the organisers also indicated that they would be rotating the festival but Siula said the possibility is there but this year, they were still holding it in Lilongwe.
Following its inauguration last year, Ovation Fusion Festival was invited to attend South Africa’s food and music extravaganza –the DStv Delicious International Food and Music Festival in Johannesburg, courtesy of Nedbank, and the ZamFest in Zambia courtesy of Zambeef.
