In a bid to strengthen their squad, Kukoma Diamonds have showed interest in signing Tigresses all-rounder Lauren Ngwira.
Ngwira, alongside Thunder Queens shooter, Sherratie Kaiche, were a subject of a disputed transfer last season after Alliance Capital Stars failed to sign them from their respective sides.
Diamonds have since penned Tigresses to open transfer discussions over the shooter, the team’s General Secretary, Chimwemwe Bakali, confirmed.
“We are doing this orderly. This is why we have written to Tigresses to inquire about the transfer fee. Our next step will be determined by the feedback we will get. But it is our hope that we will beef up the team with a quality player like Lauren because she can play in defence or attack,” Bakali said.
Tigresses Team Manager, Helene Mpinganjira-Tasosa, confirmed that Diamonds inquired about Ngwira.
“They wrote and we discussed the issue. We will get back to them this week. At the moment, I cannot say whether the player is available for sale or not,” she said.
Last season, Diamonds snatched the Rainbow Paints Southern Region Netball League championship, the Presidential Trophy and the defunct Airtel Money National Netball Trophy.
Last week, Diamonds’ sponsor, Capital Oil Refining Industries, through its Human Resources and Risk Assessment Manager, Alex Chisiyano, promised to support the team on the transfer market.
Last season, Diamonds smashed the local transfer record after signing Annabel Phiri from Lameck Queens at K600,000.
