Southern Zone Basketball League (Sozobal) will host a Four-on-Four Ladies Tournament at Blantyre Youth Centre on Saturday.
Sozobal Ladies Chairperson, Geoffrey Banda, said the tournament was aimed at improving ladies basketball in the region.
“To be honest, the levels of ladies basketball are not where they used to be. So, we are organising the event for ladies to share knowledge and skill among each other,” he said.
Banda said, during the tournament, they will feature four-aside teams comprising players drawn from several clubs.
“We will not allow a team to compete but rather we will select players from different teams into a group of four or perhaps, five players so that one should be a substitute. We feel that if we give ladies the platform to help fellow ladies, they would improve their game,” he said.
“So far, Africa Leasing Group has donated K50,000 towards the event and refreshments from Conkrite Group. Former Basketball Association of Malawi president, Raymond Banda and Victor Jere, who plays for Bricks, have also pledged to donate towards this cause. We appeal for more support,” he said.
