Civo United have reportedly roped in experienced mentor, Franco Ndawa, as coach ahead of the 2017 season.
Initially, Civo settled for Azam Tigers Coach, Gerald Phiri Snr, but he refused after being offered the Malawi National Football Team coaching job.
Ndawa was reportedly spotted at Civo Stadium during training on Wednesday.
Civo Vice General Secretary, Ronald Chiwaula, on Wednesday could neither confirm nor deny the appointment of Ndawa.
“At the moment, we do not have a permanent coach, so we are asking some of the local coaches to assist us as we are preparing for the season. If you saw Mr Ndawa, he is one of the coaches assisting us on a part-time basis because time is not on our side,” Chiwaula said.
It was not clear if Ndawa was one of the coaches who attended the interviews that attracted Stanley Chirwa, Dan Dzikambani and George Zulu recently.
Ndawa yesterday confirmed that he was drilling Civo on a part-time basis.
“I will be in Lilongwe for two to three weeks because they asked me to help them. If the club decides to hire me on a permanent basis, we will discuss and see the way forward,” Ndawa said.
Ndawa has had stints with Be Forward Wanderers, Nyasa Big Bullets, Silver Strikers, Tigers and Red Lions.
At Wanderers, he won the Presidential Cup in 2011 and won it again last season while at Bullets before he was sacked.
