The K600,000 sponsorship deal between Lube Masters and Southern Region Volleyball League (SRVL) is expected to be unveiled on Saturday.
The sponsorship will be unveiled ahead of the league’s throw off at Blantyre Youth Centre over the weekend.
The league’s General Secretary, Martin Hausi, said 20 teams are expected to witness the unveiling ceremony.
The league has been in the doldrums for many years due to lack of sponsorship.
“The sponsorship will greatly improve the standards of the game. Teams will be training harder and preparing better for games. We expect competitiveness,” Hausi said.
Lube Masters Director, Gift Mkandawire, said the company felt obliged to rescue the league.
“It is a fact that teams in the Southern Region struggle each time they play at national tournaments. We believe that the lack of sponsorship contributed to the low standards of the game and we felt duty-bound to help,” Mkandawire said.
The coming in of Lube means that all the regional leagues are now sponsored.
Sempha Investment and Jappie Mhango, the Volleyball Association of Malawi President, sponsor the Central and Northern region leagues, respectively.
