Blue Eagles seek redemption

As the 2016 TNM Super League title chase begins to take shape, title challengers Blue Eagles can redeem themselves, after a recent poor run of form, when they host Civo United at Nankhaka Stadium Saturday afternoon.

Eagles had made an early statement of intent. They won all their first six matches, but they seemed to have lost their way with two consecutive losses to Silver Strikers and Kamuzu Barracks.

That proved costly as they lost the leadership of the league to Silver who are a point clear at the top with 19 points from nine matches.

The game in hand against Civo would not be an easy ride for Eagles as the visitors are also recovering from a poor start having won thrice in nine matches. Civo are eighth with 12 points.

Eagles General Manager, Gabriel Chirwa, said they were positive of recovering in this match. The cops’ key players, Elijah Kabingu and Dan Phiri, are, however, injured.

“We have gotten over the little slip we had and we have rectified all the mistakes. We will bounce back in this match,” said Chirwa whose side was given a break last weekend.

Eagles could finish the weekend two points clear at the top since Silver are not in action this weekend.

When it comes to injuries, Civo are in a crisis as seven players are sidelined. However, the recovery of midfielder Dan Msimuko has boosted the team.

“His return has brought relief to our squad. We want to continue rising on the standings. Even though we are playing away, we will put up a good fight to get a good result,” said Civo Coach Millias Pofera who had been under pressure following a wobbly start to his reign at the Standard Bank Cup champions.

In other matches this afternoon, Kamuzu Barracks target their third consecutive win when they face Azam Tigers at Kamuzu Stadium, whereas Mzuni FC host Epac FC at Mzuzu Stadium.
