Netball giants Tigresses have expressed anger following persistent injuries which Sindie Simtowe- Msowoya suffers when her team plays Thunder Queens.
Tigresses Coach, Peace Chawinga-Kaluwa, was reacting to a recent injury which the shooter suffered when her side lost to Thunder Queens 44-36 in a Rainbow Paints Blantyre and Districts Netball League match on Sunday.
“It was the same [case] last year. They hit her deliberately throughout the match but the umpires did nothing to protect her. Yet when she retaliated, both players were sent off.
“The same thing has happened. She didn’t retaliate but the other player wasn’t sent off. I am beginning to question the integrity of the umpires’ desk because we were told that things would change this season but nothing has changed,” she said.
Chawinga-Kaluwa said Tigresses’ game-plan was being affected as some players were afraid of putting up a spirited performances.
“It seems to be their plan to injure our players so that others should be afraid during the game,” she said.
Thunder goal-defender Martha Dambo appeared to slap Simtowe-Msowoya in the face and the Malawi national netball team shooter bled profusely as play was stopped in the third-quarter.
Simtowe Msowoya was eventually replaced and taken to hospital for further treatment.
Last year, the shooter was involved in a brawl with Malawi national netball team Captain, Joana Kachilika. Both players were fined and suspended.
