Lilongwe-based Rainseekers Arts In Education Conservatoire, led by former director of culture Bernard Kwilimbe, continues to honour personalities in the country.

Having decorated such names as Mtebeti Wambali Mkandawire, Charles Chavalamangwere Mkanthama and Waliko Makhala for their contributions in the creative sector, Rsaiec on Friday also honoured other sons and daughters of the country.

Those decorated include Vita Chirwa of Kalimba Band, Catherine Kamthunzi, Willard Kapindu and Zilanie Gondwe.

Vita was honoured as a Legend of the Kalimba Music Movement and Social Cultural Animator while Zilanie was recognised as a Media and Arts Manager as well as a female empowerment advocate.

The principal guest during the event was James Kalirangwe, who presented certificates of recognition.

Vita said he will continue moving Kalimba Band forward.

“I am priviledged and honoured to be recognised with an award by Rainseekers. This is the sort of encouragement I needed to do more. We will soldier on,” Vita said.

Meanwhile, Rainseekers has announced that it will hold another event on April 17 at Chididi School in Nkhota-kota where it will decorate people including a nurse Alice Washali, catechist and song leader Barnabas Kan’njanani, guitarist and singer Gilbert Ndowa and teacher and ethnomusicologist Victor Mwachumu Chunga.

“There is a lot that our sons and daughters are doing in the country and, in most cases, we leave it to the government but we can also do it,” Kwilimbe said.
