With the 2017 TNM Super League kick-off approaching, one of the biggest challenges facing clubs is ensuring that their match venues meet the requirements for hosting top-flight football.
Lilongwe sleeping giants, Silver Strikers, are leaving no stone unturned in making their Silver Stadium fit for matches.
Silver General Secretary, Thabo Nyirenda, said the stadium was closed to pave way for pitch maintenance.
“We expected to get started by January but we were waiting for all procedures to be followed. We expect to finish the works in time for the kick off of the season,” Nyirenda explained.
He said they have negotiated with the Malawi Police Service to allow the Bankers to use Nankhaka as an alternative venue.
Nyirenda said the works will be completed soon.
One of the projects on the cards at Silver Stadium is the installation of an electronic ticketing system.
Other venues such as Bingu National Stadium are also expected to adopt the system to beat gate fraud.
