Renowned golfers, John Gift Mwakhwawa and Bose Kamphulusa, emerged winners of the Bash Memorial Golf Tournament held at Blantyre Sports Club on Wednesday.

Mwakhwawa, playing off handicap 12, posted 20 points to win the men’s section and he was followed by Alfred Chikhale and Gift Gondwe on second and third places, respectively.

Mwakhwawa said he held his nerves to overcome the opposition.

“I came here prepared. I was composed throughout and I just wanted to enjoy my moment,” he said.

In the ladies’ section, Kamphulusa, playing off handicap 30, finished on first position with 19 points whereas Harriet Marian, playing off handicap 26, ended on second place with 18 points. Joline Bapu occupied third place with 13 points.

Bask Automotive Limited organised the tournament in memory of the company’s managing director-designate, the late Bashir Shariff Junior.

Bash Managing Director, Bashir Shariff Senior, said they organised the contest to celebrate the life of his first-born son, who died on March 20, 2015, 11 days before taking over the company’s leadership.

“I want to thank everyone who took part in the tournament in memory of my son. As I promised last year, we will continue holding the memorial tournament,” he said.
