Silver Strikers have announced the signing of seven new players ahead of the 2017 season.

The unveiling took place Thursday at Silver Stadium in Lilongwe where the club’s General Secretary, Thabo Nyirenda and board member MacDonald Mafuta Mwale were present.

Notable signings included former Premier Bet Wizards captain, Trevor Kalema, Malawi Under-20 National Football Team forward, Frank Chizuze, defender Hadji Wali, Ghanian forward Mike Tette and Nigerian defender Yinusa Olanrewaju.

Speaking before the unveiling, Silver Chairperson, Ralph Tseka, praised the new signings and he was upbeat ahead of the season.

“They are talented players and we believe they will bring competition in the team. We are building a formidable side that can challenge for the Super League championship and cups next season,” Tseka said.

He added that they signed the players on recommendation from the Young Chimodzi-led technical panel.

In a separate interview, Silver Coach, Lovemore Fazili, said the players proved their worth during trials.

“We have been assessing them for almost two months and they impressed us,” said Fazili, whose side lost captain, Lucky Malata, to Be Forward Wanderers.

Silver want to reclaim the Super League championship which they last won in 2013.

The Central Bankers endured a miserable campaign last season having finished empty-handed.

Last season, the team finished on position three in the Super League and they were the Carlsberg Cup’s losing finalists.
