Red Lions bemoan red card

Red Lions have attributed their three-all draw against Nyasa Big Bullets at Kamuzu Stadium on Monday to a red card flashed to the visitors’ striker, Lot Chawinga.

Chawinga received marching orders after protesting against referee, Evidence Kananji’s decision to show him a second yellow card for fouling Bullets’ defender, Maneno Nyoni.

The decision did not please Lions’ technical panel which claimed that it was Nyoni who deserved the caution, forcing the referee to dismiss Lions’ head coach, Mike Kumanga, from the technical area.

Lions outplayed the hosts and scored through Kelvin Katema, Chawinga and McPeter Makwale before Muhammad Sulumba, Collen Nkhulambe and Chiukepo Msowoya replied for the hosts.

Lions’ assistant coach, Pritchard Mwansa, questioned the referee’s decisions.

“We cannot focus much on his decisions because even if we lodge complaints nothing is done. But we hope that the referee’s body is able to see such issues,” Mwansa said.

Lions are on position 11 with 26 points from 22 games.

“We have improved our standard of play and I am hopeful that we will finish on a better position. We drew our inspiration from Saturday’s 2-1 win over Blue Eagles,” Mwansa added.
