Bottom-placed Max Bullets finished the TNM Super League first round with a sigh of relief after stunning Mafco FC 3-2 at Kamuzu Stadium on Sunday for the rookies’ first win of the season.
Max had gone 14 games without a win and only collected four points.
But the new comers shocked the Salima-based soldiers by coming from behind with Frazer Menyani grabbing a double plus Pilirani Thomson’s goal sealing the maximum points.
Joseph Donsa and Richard Mbulu scored for Mafco, who are fourth with 25 points from 14 games, whereas Max have seven points.
At Nankhaka Stadium in Lilongwe, second-placed Blue Eagles (26 points from 14 games) and sixth-positioned Nyasa Big Bullets (23 points from 13 games) played out to a goal-less draw.
It was a drab draw as both teams failed to create scoring opportunities.
In other games, Karonga United, who are on position 14 with 10 points, beat Red Lions 2-1 yesterday to worsen the soldiers’ woes. The Lions have finished the first round with 14 points while positioned 12th.
All bottom-placed teams won their respective matches this weekend as Dwangwa United also defeated Civo United 2-1 at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe on Saturday.
Silver Strikers still lead the table with 29 points from 14 games.
