Silver Strikers assistant coach, Lovemore Fazili, is brimming with confidence in his charges that they would reach the Carlsberg Cup final this season.

The Central Bankers booked a round-of-16 tie against Zolozolo FC after beating Capital City rivals, Civo United, 1-0 on Wednesday at Silver Stadium.

Zolozolo qualified for the round-of-16 after beating TNM Super League rookies, Max Bullets, 2-1 at Mpira Stadium in Blantyre early this month.

Silver have never reached the cup’s final since it was introduced.

But Fazili believes that his side has the best chance to win it this year.

“We struggled against Civo because they are our rivals, but we showed great character. Cup games are always tough and we have players who don’t give up easily,” he said.

Mathews Sibale ensured Silver’s progression to the round -of-16 when he scored on the dot of full-time.

Silver also top the Super League with 29 points from 14 games.

Last year, Silver reached the semifinals of the cup before being thrashed 3-0 by Nyasa Big Bullets at Kamuzu Stadium.

In other round of-16 matches played on Wednesday, Wizards FC dumped Blue Eagles out of the cup following a 2-1 victory at MDC Stadium.

Hendrix Misinde hammered a brace, whereas Gilbert Chirwa grabbed the consolation for the Eagles.

Elsewhere, Warm Heart Bullets beat Mzuni FC 1-0 at Nankhaka Stadium in Lilongwe. Justin Duwe scored the only goal of the match.

Bullets thrashed Masters Security FC 5-0 at Kamuzu Stadium with goals from Chiukepo Msowoya (2), Emmanuel Zoya, Kondwani Kumwenda and Fischer Kondowe.
