The Tourism and Hotels Board has maintained a four star status for Protea Ryalls and Sunbird Capital making them top hotels in the country.

Star graded hotels are those that offer only the highest level of accommodations and services with a high degree of personal service.

Director of Tourism and Secretary for Tourism and Hotels Board, Isaac Katopola, said the grading follows voluntary inspections of a number of establishments last month.

The other hotel that was graded is Mafumu hotel and it got a two star, while Kumbali Lodge is the only lodge that got a three star.

Katopola said the hotel star grading offers industry recognition to graded properties and enhances quality and image of the hotels.

“The hotel star grading is also meant to ensure that our hotels provide services that match the best hotel standards within the region and internationally and therefore enhances competitiveness,” he said.

Katopola said the board is committed t o u p s c a l e t h e implementation of the grading system. He said the board will consider moving from voluntary to mandatory grading system so that more units participate in the grading system.

The hotel star grading, according to the tourism board, entails an assessment of all service elements as well as nonservice elements.

The board further said the exercise indicates to consumers the property’s commitment to expected quality service and standards.
