As part of its corporate social responsibility, Limbe Leaf Tobacco has spent K18 million to renovate Chatata Primary School in Lilongwe.
Limbe Leaf has renovated all the 20 classrooms at the school on top of sponsoring maintenance of the sewer system at the school.
Limbe Leaf Legal and Corporate Affairs Director, Febbie Chikungwa, said the school was chosen because is an integral part of a community in which the company operates.
“We have created a conducive learning environment for our pupils and a conducive teaching environment for our teachers. The parents will appreciate that their kids are learning in one of best structures around.
“Limbe Leaf sincerely believes that with the improved learning environment and the hygiene facilities, the students will be motivated and the learning outcomes will improve. We are looking forward to seeing an improved pass rate now onwards,” she said.
In her remarks, Head Teacher for the school, Patricia Chisambo-Kamwani, hailed Limbe Leaf for the support.
“Let me commend Limbe Leaf for renovating the school and we appeal to other companies to emulate the gesture shown by the company,” she said.
