The Winter Ankara Fashion Expo that debuted last year in Blantyre is back and this time around it will take place on July 30.

The organisers of the event yesterday said all was set for the expo dubbed Blantyre Night.

“We are excited to bring this event back and this time around it will be bigger and better. Last year, the event was a success but we did not promote it fully,” said Malumbo Sichinga, a member of the organising team.

He said the event will be held along Victoria Avenue Street from NBS Bank to Chayamba Building.

“This event is more than fashion because we will also have musical performances. We are serious about this event as we showed last year. People should not doubt us at all because everything is in place and all they have to do is just come and be part of it,” said Sichinga.

He revealed that some of the musicians to perform at the event are Patience Namadingo, who is currently in the United States of America for performances, Theo Thomson, who is still in the limelight having released his latest album, The White Elephant and female singer Hazel Mak, famed for the song Liyaya.

Other artists on the line-up are Homegrown African, Trapper and Josh.

“We will also have martial arts displays and other fun events, so we have so many events on the ground. The standard tickets are selling at K4,000, VIP is K8,000 and there are special tickets for Lilongwe selling at K14,000 which includes transport to and from the event,” he said.

Sichinga revealed that eight designers will showcase their products during the event to be hosted by Joy Nathu and Lily Banda.

“Last year we only had the runway but this time around there will be a lot more. People should not be worried about security because everything is in place,” he said.

According to Sichinga, proceeds from the event will be used to run a project which is under the banner of Wafe Cares.

“This year Wafe Cares is engaged in three main projects; namely, a secondary school programme that teaches about recycling, self-esteem and career choices, raising school fees for children with albinism and donating items to Namitambo Feeding Centre,” he said.

The Winter Ankara Fashion Expo is organised by The Creatives which is made up of a group of a young talented events management team which is based in Blantyre.
