Stage performances seem to be the garden of the Black Missionaries.
And, from the look of things, The Black Missionaries, A.K.A. Ma Blacks, seem to relish every visit to any such garden.
However, Ma Blacks have admitted that they have failed to meet their own standards by failing to visit one of their hottest gardens, Lilongwe, for some time. The last time they visited the Capital City was on April 30 this year.
Again, the April 30 show was not of their own making; they were in the Capital City to perform as one of the acts when Jamaican group, Morgan Heritage, performed in Lilongwe.
But Ma Blacks band leader, Anjiru Fumulani, said yesterday that the grouping was ready to make up for lost time during their next Lilongwe outing on Sunday.
“Indeed, the last time we visited Lilongwe exclusively for our shows was in March this year. We then performed there in April at the Morgan Heritage show. We missed our fans and we are happy to give them a good time on Sunday,” said Fumulani.
Before the Sunday show, however, Ma Blacks will have to fulfill appointments with their fans at Arnold’s Place in Dwangwa, Nkhotakota, and Livingstonia Beach Hotel in Salima on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
“What people should know is that we have started coming up with surprises. It is no longer a case of one show being similar to the next. We are, therefore, ready to surprise our fans during the shows,” said Fumulani.
As Ma Blacks strut their stuff in Nkhotakota, Salima and Lilongwe, Soldier Lucius Banda’s Zembani Band will be on home ground— Zembani Lodge in Balaka— before storming Mangochi, where the grouping is billed to perform at Mangochi Community Hall.
On Sunday, the band visits Pajokala in Zomba.
Soldier Lucius Banda sounded upbeat about the shows.
