Weeks after the Beyond You team walked from Lilongwe to Blantyre, Carlsberg Malawi has given the team an additional K1 million in support of their cause to buy medical equipment for Kamuzu Central Hospital.
The K1 million comes after Carlsberg Malawi earlier donated 300 bottles of water in May following a request from Beyond You for use during the walk.
“We are still in shock because the donation was so unexpected. We were very happy that they accepted our request for bottled water and did not expect the company to come back with a K1 million cheque,” said one of the members of Beyond You, Duwa Mvula.
Making the donation, Carlsberg Marketing Director, Gwynyth Mchiela, said the company felt duty bound to support the cause.
“We were very moved to see that this group of young people actually walked the distance and we heard their message; that we can all give something to help. What they did was inspirational and we recognise that supporting this cause, to equip the paediatric unit of the Kamuzu Central Hospital, will help a lot of children, including those of the employees at Carlsberg Malawi,” Mchiela said.
Beyond You has raised over K22 million to buy equipment for the paediatric High Dependency Unit at the Kamuzu Central Hospital.
