Flames striker Atusaye Nyondo has signed for Bloemfontein Celtic after leaving relegated University of Pretoria in the South Africa Absa Premier Soccer League (PSL). He scored one league goal last season.
Celtic, previous home to Malawians Gabadinho Mhango and Limbikani Mzava, unveiled the former Silver Strikers forward on Sunday alongside Mpho Maruping, Cheslyn Jampies, Tlou Molekwane, Deon Hotto, Sibusiso Mxoyana and Khetokwakhe Masuku.
Celtic coach Serame Letsoaka told Sowetan newspaper that the new recruits were meant to add balance in the team, whose team manager is Malawian John Maduka.
“When I got here, there were too many players in one area and other areas did not have enough. We are happy with the signings and we are finalising one or two more players to bring in. We will probably announce them when we unveil the new jersey,” Letsoaka said.
Nyondo’s signing might end Nyasa Big Bullets captain Chiukepo Msowoya’s remote hope of joining Celtic.
Other Malawians in the PSL are Robin Ngalande, Robert Ng’ambi (Platinum Stars), Gabadinho and Gerald Phiri Jnr (BidVest Wits), Esau Kanyenda (Polokwane City), Mzava (Golden Arrows) and Micium Mhone (Jomo Cosmos).
