Toyota Malawi has made a donation of medical supplies worth over K6 million to the paediatric department of the Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital (QECH).
In his remarks, Toyota Malawi General Manager for Aftersales, Andrew Katimba, said the donation forms part of Toyota Malawi’s Corporate Social Responsibility programme which focuses on health, environment, road safety and education.
“We pay a lot of attention to the health category, especially supporting paediatric needs because we realise that most of the challenges that the health sector faces sit in the paediatric wards. We feel duty bound to support this area because we realise that children are key to the future well-being of the Malawi economy,” he said.
And Principal Health Services Administrator at QECH, Chikumbutso Tambala, thanked Toyota for the donation describing it as a timely intervention which will help reduce the challenges the hospital is facing.
“The health sector has been hit hard by the withdrawal of donor support and QECH has not been spared. This donation we are receiving today will go a long way in improving delivery of health care in the paediatric ward,” he said.
