Silver Strikers impressive run in the TNM Super League comes under extreme scrutiny Saturday when they host wounded Kamuzu Barracks (KB) at Silver Stadium in Lilongwe.
It promises to be a potentially exciting fixture as KB seek to bounce back from a disappointing outing last weekend when they collected a point in 1-1 draw against Red Lions on Sunday, a day after losing 1-0 to Azam Tigers at Kamuzu Stadium.
The Central Bankers want to overtake leaders Blue Eagles at the summit of the league.
Separated by five points with Silver on second position with 19 points from nine games against KB’s 14 points from 10 games, fireworks are expected today.
Silver assistant coach Lovemore Fazili refused to be carried away by their current form, saying KB were a strong side.
“The players are mentally and physically strong. If we stick to our game-plan and continue collecting points, it will be better for us,” Fazili said.
Heading into this fixture, Silver are unbeaten in six consecutive games having dropped two points only.
Silver have only lost two opening consecutive homes games against Be Forward Wanderers and Tigers 1-2 and 0-1 respectively this season.
With Blessings Tembo, Mathews Sibale and Victor Limbani in good form, Silver fans are confident of displacing Eagles at the summit of the league.
On the other hand, KB have, save for last week’s blip, been inconsistent this season.
Head coach Billy Phambala said the soldiers have put their last weekend’s debacle behind.
“We just need to be focused against Silver and I have no doubt that we will do well,” he said.
As usual, Harvey Nkacha, Manase Chiyesa and Davie Banda will be potential match winners for the soldiers.
In other games to be played today, Karonga United host Tigers at Mzuzu Stadium, whereas Epac and Mafco face-off in another potentially thrilling encounter at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe.
