Fifty schools around Blantyre have been earmarked to benefit from Nampak Malawi’s K2.8million reforestation initiative.
The initiative is being implemented in partnership with Wildlife and Environmental Society of Malawi (Wesm)
The campaign was launched in Blantyre on Wednesday and Wesm Marketing Manager,NyakhokoNsona said Nampak believes in giving back to the communities where it has its operations.
“As part of our corporate social responsibility, we are focusing on education, health and environment and having seen that there is climate change due to depletion of natural resources like trees, we decided to donate 10, 000 seedlings to benefit 50 schools.
“As you know we deal with paper packaging and paper is made out of wood. Our suppliers outside the country have programmes to replant trees for sustainability and that is why we have spent a total of K2.8 million in buying seedlings, out of which 2000 are fruit trees and 8000 are various trees to be replanted around the targeted schools in Blantyre,” said Nsona.
Wesm Trustee, Paul Taylor, thanked Nampak for the donation and urged the communities to take care of the trees in order to fight climate change.
