Blue Eagles are set to elevate Audloy Makonyola as the club’s Head Coach following the appointment of Derklerk Msakakuona as Malawi National Football Team, the Flames’ Assistant Coach.

The club’s Chairperson, Alexander Ngwala, confirmed that the club endorsed the appointment of Msakakuona following discussions with the Football Association of Malawi (Fam).

“We wish him well as he will be taking a big step in his coaching career. He will be on secondment until the end of his contract and he has our blessings,” Ngwala said.

The club was scheduled to meet in Lilongwe last night to decide on Makonyola’s assistant.

Makonyola yesterday said he was not officially communicated about his position.

“At the moment, I am still under his arm as an assistant coach. I will be able to comment further once communicated on the issue, but I am proud of Msakakuona for what he has achieved as a coach,” the former Eagle Strikers mentor said.

Fam on Wednesday announced the new Flames technical panel headed by former Azam Tigers mentor Gerald Phiri Snr on a one-year contract.

Flames legend Peter Mponda was named Team Manager whereas the position of Goalkeepers’ Trainer went to Philip Nyasulu.

The appointment of Phiri Snr has also left Tigers without a coach with few weeks before the start of the season.

Tigers Chairperson, Sydney Chikoti, was not available for his comment yesterday.

Phiri on Wednesday said he would report to Tigers management about his appointment and say goodbye.

Last season, Eagles finished on position four with 55 points in the Super League, six points behind champions Kamuzu Barracks.
