Kenya Football Federation (KFF) has confirmed that the Harambee Stars will host their Malawian counterparts at Kenyatta Stadium in Machako Town on April 18 for a friendly.

Nation newspaper of Kenya reported on Tuesday that KFF was excited to host the Flames, who will be in transit to Madagascar for a 2018 African Nations Championship (Chan) qualifier scheduled for April 22.

FKF Chief Executive Officer, Robert Muthomi, is quoted as saying they would feature locally-based players.

“The game will not be played during the Fifa international week, so we shall not be inviting any foreign based players. This will strictly be for the local players for the Chan competitions. In fact, we do not plan on having any more games for the foreign based players until the Cup of Nations qualifiers,” Muthomi told the newspaper.

When unveiling a 27-member squad and new Flames’ Coach, Gerald Phiri Senior, Wednesday, Football Association of Malawi General Secretary, Alfred Gunda, confirmed the news about the warm up match in Kenya.

While Malawi has been inactive since last year, Kenya drew 1-1 against Uganda then defeated the Democratic Republic of Congo 2-1 in recent friendlies.

Harambee Stars are currently enjoying a 10-mattch unbeaten streak ahead of their Group F Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Sierra Leone, Ghana and Ethiopia.
