Mussa Ajibu to fight in United States

Malawi’s cruiserweight boxer, Mussa Ajibu, has challenged Nigerian Olanrewaju Durodola for a rematch in Las Vegas, United States of America.

The two traded punches on March 18 in Accra, Ghana, and Durodola emerged victorious on a controversial knockout after the referee stopped the bout in the fourth round, claiming the Malawian had sustained a cut.

Malawi Boxing Association (Maba) President, Justice Katika, said the association had written a protest letter to World Boxing Organisation and organisers, Box Office Sports in Ghana, over the conduct of the referee in the bout.

“We would like to prove to the world that Ajibu lost that bout because of the referee. Taking the fight to the US will help us because there will be no room for underhand dealings like what happened in Ghana,” Katika explained.

The Nigerian, rated 15th in the category in the world, has to accept the rematch within 30 days or risk losing the belt he won against Ajibu.

Ajibu said he still finds it hard to understand the reasons for the stoppage.

“I had not sustained any cut to warrant the stoppage of the bout as claimed by some quarters. I was on my way to victory and it appears certain people had connived to rob me of the result,” he claimed
