Revamped Tigresses have closed in on a sponsorship agreement with a Lilongwe-based company.
The Blantyre-based team has been receiving support from the company for a year, Tigresses coach-cum-administrator, Peace Chawinga-Kaluwa, said.
Chawinga-Kaluwa said they hope to seal the deal this month.
“Yes, we have been enjoying support from this company which I can’t disclose now. Currently, we want to formalise the agreement so that we should be doing things according to what is stipulated in the contract. It might take two weeks or so before we make the partnership public,” she said.
The company supplies Tigresses with juices which are given to players during games.
“The support, coupled with the rebuilding exercise we started two years ago, is bearing fruits. We are building a Tigresses team that would be there for many years,” Chawinga-Kaluwa said.
Tigresses started the season strongly, beating rivals Tropical Queens, formerly Thunder Queens, 35-30 in a 2019 Rainbow Paint Blantyre and Districts Netball League match played at Blantyre Youth Centre last weekend.
Lack of club sponsorship has contributed to dwindling netball standards in the country.
