Veteran musician Giddes Chalamanda is set to perform in South Africa this weekend alongside Edgar ndi Davis.
Davis Njobvu said Wednesday all was set for the performances in the Rainbow Nation, adding that they were happy that Giddes would be performing outside the country again.
“We took Giddes Chalamanda to United States of America in 2016 and now he will be performing in South Africa. We just want to thank people who have come out to support us,” Njobvu said.
He said they were looking forward to the best during the performances and called for support from Malawians living in South Africa.
The performances in South Africa will take place on Saturday and Sunday, giving a chance to Giddes to perform to a different audience.
The veteran musician, who is now 88, has been offering energetic performances on stage despite his age.
In a related development, Scallas Café in Blantyre has donated a return air ticket to Giddes.
“We are thankful to Scallas for this gesture. Giddes Chalamanda has done a lot to the country in terms of propelling music and, so, to have people coming out to support him is great,” Njobvu said.
The club’s manager, Emmanuel Tambulasi, said it was an honour for Scallas Café to contribute to Giddes’ trip in recognition of his achievements in the country’s music circles.
He said they would perform live with a band in South Africa.
“We will not play with a CD, all the shows will be live and some of the band members will leave early by road on Wednesday (yesterday) and the members include James Kuchilala, Davie Nthala, Grant Soko and Chifundo John,” Njobvu said.
