Business remained slow in some parts of the country mainly due to the after-effects of the May 21 Tripartite Elections.
Traders plying in Lilongwe’s busiest trade area, Bwalo la Njobvu, for instance, claimed that they were yet to recover after remaining subdued for close to a week.
Some traders we spoke to say, in the past seven days, they had not been operating fully.
Malawians went to vote on 21 May but it took the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) until Monday evening to announce President Peter Mutharika as the winner due to irregularities that attracted court orders and delays in tallying processes.
A Nigeria national running a shop of clothes and electrical appliances in the area, Alfred Ejiogu, said they were forced to close shops for three days.
“Customers are not coming, even if you look in the streets there are no people; so, business is still slow and we hope it will get back to normal now that everything to do with the election is completed,” Ejiogu said.
Another trader, Ali Asghar, said generally business has been slow the entire election period.
