Civil Sporting Club have vowed to lift the Airtel Top 8 and end their cup-drought which dates back to 2015 when they last lifted the defunct Standard Bank Cup.
Civil forced a goalless draw against Mzuni at Mzuzu last Sunday and host the students in the second leg at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe on Sunday.
The Lilongwe-based team’s team manager, Gabriel Chirwa, said they had assembled a balanced squad with youthful and experienced players.
“We failed to score in Mzuzu and we are working on scoring. We will be playing at home and we need goals. It has been a long time since we won silverware and we hope that this is the right time to win the Airtel Top 8,” Chirwa said.
Civil have started the season strongly in the TNM Super League after winning three straight games to occupy second position with nine points.
Karonga United were the first team to, this season, reach the Airtel Top 8 semi-final, following a goalless draw against TN Stars on Saturday at Karonga Stadium.
In the first leg, Karonga drew 1-1 against Stars at Kasungu Stadium last week.
Another return match will involve hosts Silver Strikers and Be Forward Wanderers on May 14 at Silver Stadium in Lilongwe.
