Malawi Defence Force side Red Lions has underlined the desire to return to the TNM Super League after winning three straight games in the K14 million Thumbs Up Southern Region Football Association League Premier Division.
The Zomba-based team is at the summit of the log table with nine points after beating Chinamwali 3-0 on Sunday.
Sable Farming are second with seven points from the same number of games.
Lions Coach, Nelson Chirwa, said the team neither underrates nor fears any team in its quest to win the regional championship and return to the top flight league.
“We will be taking each game seriously to realise our goal. We will therefore not dwell much on the painful exit from the top league but rather concentrate on our matches and put up a proper foundation so that we return,” Chirwa said.
SRFA Vice General Secretary, Kingsley Simbeye, said the league had started on a good note as most teams were showing flashes of brilliance.
“It is too early to consider Lions as potential champions because of their strong start. Other teams such as Eshani Wizards, MDF Marine and Sable Farming are also doing well; so, it could be anybody’s game,” he said.
