The Easter Theatre Festival returns to the fold today at Jacaranda Cultural Centre in Blantyre.
The festival debuted in 2015 at Blantyre Cultural Centre but going inactive due to what organisers, Solomonic Peacocks, cited as financial challenges.
“We have done a lot of talking since we announced our return after a three-year break but we have come out bigger and better.
“All we are saying is that this is family entertainment,” the group’s director, McArthur Matukuta, said.
He said the festival would also have workshops on the menu, to be facilitated by a theatre group from Germany.
“It’s not all about performances but we are also looking at other pillars such as networking and education,” Matukuta said.
As organisers, Solomonic Peacocks will also be on stage to perform, with other sets coming from Nkhokwe Arts, Chichiri Prison Cultural Troupe, Chichiri Primary Drama Club, Young Travellers, Jacca Steppers, Dikamawoko Arts and Vilipanganga Poetry Movement.
A theatre group from Hannover, Germany— Erblenis— arrived in the country on Monday to perform at the show.
“We just want to thank all our sponsors, who have made it possible for the festival to take place. We have Hannover City Council in Germany and Jacaranda Cultural Centre,” Matukuta said.
The festival is running under the theme ‘Creating Sustainable Wealth for Artists’.
