Albino killing political issue, says Lazarus Chakwera

Malawi Congress Party (MCP) president, Lazarus Chakwera, has said the killing of people with albinism are a political issue, dismissing President Peter Mutharika’s call for politicians not to politicise the issue.

“Let me say it here that this is a political issue. The President is a political leader who was elected to protect the right to life of all Malawians, including people with albinism. He has political powers to end these crimes and if the heat is too much, he should get out of the kitchen,” Chakwera said when he addressed a rally at Wataka Primary School in Machinga Central East Constituency on Sunday.

He promised tight security to all Malawians, including people with albinism, if voted into power in the May 21 Tripartite Elections, adding he would embark on development projects for people of Machinga.

Speaking earlier, MCP director of campaign, Moses Kunkuyu, said time had come for people to stop associating themselves with certain political parties because of ethnicity.
