When it comes to limitless ambition, Carlsberg Cup kings Masters Security FC have no equal on the domestic scene.

Ahead of the 2019 season, Masters have hired former Nyasa Big Bullets coach, Elia Kananji, as assistant to Abasi Makawa.

Masters’ owner, Alfred Gangata, said Kananji has signed a two-year contract, months after being released by Bullets alongside Rodgers Yasini.

“We are strengthening our team in all departments. We are happy that we have added Kananji to our technical team. I believe that his experience will help us a lot as he has been at Bullets and Wanderers as head coach,” he said.

Masters are not done with the recruitments—they are eyeing Botswana’s former Gaborone United coach, Lazarus Magaya, for the position of technical director.

Gangata said they feel that the Zimbabwean (Magaya) would add value to Masters.

“Magaya is also a good coach who is rated highly alongside his compatriot Kalisto Pasuwa [of Bullets]. He was an assistant coach for Swaziland, now eSwatini national team. He is a Caf B-Licence holder,” he said.

Despite their ambition, Masters struggle to pay their players.

Kananji, a master at winning Carlsberg cups with Bullets and Wanderers, Wednesday said he was ready for the task.

“It is true that I am now at Masters. They have told me what they want and, if we create a good working environment, we will definitely do well,” he Masters, who finished on fourth position of the TNM Super League log table last year, have sold striker Babatunde Adepoju and midfielder Francis Mkonda to Wanderers.

Zachariah Nyirenda and Muhammad Selemani have announced their resignations as Masters’ general secretary and team manager, respectively, so as to concentrate on their bids for Super League of Malawi positions ahead of March 2 elections.
