Nyasa Big Bullets are within touching distance of the TNM Super League title after a hard fought 1-0 victory over Blue Eagles at Nankhaka Stadium in Lilongwe yesterday.
The result means Bullets are just a few games away from winning their 14th title since the inception of the league in 1986.
Nelson Kangunje netted the priceless goal in the dying minutes to secure maximum points for Bullets.
It was a goal which originated from Fischer Kondowe’s cross. Kangunje was left unmarked in the box and, with a free header, beat Eagles goalkeeper John Soko.
Bullets have extended the lead at the summit of the log table to six points with their tally of 58 points. They have six games to wind up the season.
Bullets dominated the game but wasted some glorious chances through Chiukepo Msowoya, Kangunje and Patrick Phiri.
Eagles also had some chances that Maxwell Salambula and Beston Jimu failed to convert. The policemen are on position six with 34 points from 27 games.
In the other played in Blantyre, Be Forward Wanderers and Silver Strikers shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw at Kamuzu Stadium as Zicco Nkanda scored for the Nomads, with Michael Tetteh netting the equaliser.
Silver are still second with 52 points having played 27 games whereas Wanderers are third with 46 points from 23 games, 12 points behind Bullets.
Eagles Coach DeKlerk Msakakuona accepted defeat: “We made a mistake and Bullets utilised their chances. We also had some chances but it was not our day.”
Bullets Coach Calisto Pasuwa said: “I did not expect that the game would be this difficult. I think it is a very competitive league nowadays than it was before because some teams are also strong. We will take every game seriously and we have to very careful.”
