Vice-President Saulos Chilima, who is also leader of United Transformation Movement (UTM), has told people to desist from worshiping leaders for bringing various developments to their areas.
Chilima made the remarks Sunday during the eighth launch of the grouping at Namphungo Primary School ground in Mulanje.
He said leaders are there to serve people by introducing development initiatives, adding that, as such, elected officials should not be praised.
“Do not praise people who come to you claiming they have brought development to your respective areas. What you should know is that the money used for such developments is from your taxes. They use your money to bring about such developments,” he said.
In his speech, Chilima also articulated how UTM would improve the health, education and agriculture sectors in the country if given a chance to govern the country.
“When we take over government, we will ensure that we improve the agriculture sector by making sure that Admarc [Agricultural Development and Marketing Corporation] serves its intended purpose.
“We want to promote good health, ensure that we have medical personnel in various hospitals and improve on the availability of drugs in hospitals. We will make sure that teachers are paid in good time,” he said.
Chilima maintained that the grouping would create one million jobs in the country.
“We stand by what we have said previously; we will create jobs for people in this country. We have the know how in terms of how to go about this,” he said.
