Malawi national netball team Head Coach, Griffin Saenda Snr, has said Kenya and Uganda are the Queens’ major threat at this year’s African Netball Championship in Lusaka, Zambia.
Malawi are set to start camping Monday at Blantyre Youth Centre and Saenda has been maintained as the Queens’ mentor ahead of the continental showpiece to run from August 14 to 19.
“I am excited to have been maintained as coach. I am ready for this challenge. But going forward, we need to tread carefully against Uganda and Kenya as they are both capable of winning.
“Kenya rarely participate in this tournament but they have tall players and they also beat Uganda in a recent match. So there is no room to relax,” he said.
Saenda said he wanted to meet and assess his players first before outlining his targets for the tournament.
The Queens are under pressure to deliver following a seventh-place finish at Australia’s Gold Coast Commonwealth Games in April despite recording a historic victory over high ranking New Zealand.
Uganda are ranked seventh after finishing sixth at the international tournament involving athletes from Commonwealth member states.
The she-Cranes, who are the African champions, have made steady progress on world rankings and have closed in on the Queens who are sixth-ranked.
