BY SAM BANDA JNR:
Musician Muhanya left the country last Thursday for Germany, where he is expected to hold some gigs as well as workshops in schools.
Muhanya said Tuesday he arrived safely in Germany and has started preparing for the gigs.
Before leaving for Germany, the artist held some shows across the country.
“I had a good time performing in different places in the country. They were good shows which made me reach out to different audiences and also showed me my weaknesses,” Muhanya said.
He said he recalls a show at Mayoka in Nkhata Bay, where one of the fans gave him an idea on a song he performed.
“It’s good to connect with fans. As artists we can also learn from the audience and improve,” he said.
Muhanya could not name some of the places where he will hold the gigs.
He also said he was yet to fix some of the gigs but is optimistic that he will get more opportunities of holding shows.
“I also want to network with other musicians. The idea is to get my presence felt in Europe and also show what Malawi music is all about,” Muhanya said.
He said he wants to share his music with the world and that getting opportunities to hold gigs in Europe is what he wants to build on.
“I am happy with the direction I have taken in my music. I am also happy with the efforts musicians are making in breaking international borders. Already we have Madalitso Band and Gasper Nali touring Europe so this is good for Malawi,” the singer and guitarist said.
In June this year, Patience Namadingo and Princess Chitsulo also performed in Germany including at the Fete de la Musique Festival.
Menes la Plume also starred in Poland headlining the Brave Festival.
“There is talent in Malawi. All we need are resources and opportunities to perform in different festivals,” Muhanya said.
The musician also had outings in France and Germany in August and December last year.
Muhanya is expected home next month.
