John Maduka’s fate in Steve Komphela’s hands

BY RONALD MPASO:

The future of former Flames captain, John Maduka, as South Africa’s Bloemfontein Celtic assistant Coach lies in the hands of new Head Coach Steve Komphela.

The former Kaizer Chiefs mentor, Komphela, has taken over the reins from Serbian mentor Veselin Jelusic, who recently resigned from the Absa Premiership outfit.

Jelusic had Maduka and Lehlohonolo Seema as his assistants but, with reports that Komphela would prefer his own backroom staff, there is a cause for concern.

Seema told Kickoff.com that the two are unsure of what the future holds, following the appointment of Komphela who resigned as Chiefs boss in April after three trophyless seasons.

“I do not know yet. They have not said anything to us, so I do not know. If it happens, it happens, you know in football. Yes, we are training, he [Komphela] has not started yet. But the team has not done anything … as you said, it is a rumour so I cannot even comment on what I have not even seen or heard of.

“I do not have anything to say up until I hear it officially. We are still going to training, me and John are still coming to training because we have not heard anything, so I do not know,” Seema is quoted as saying.

It also remains to be seen if Komphela will retain the services of on-and-off Flames striker Atusaye Nyondo, who has struggled for game-time.
