The fate of Mike Harper, an expatriate who made a “racist” remark against a Malawian domestic worker will be announced today.

The Malawi Human Rights and other activists are demanding that government deports Harper for describing a Malawian as a slave on a Facebook forum for expats in Lilongwe.

“There was a hearing at the Malawi Human Rights Commission. Harper was in attendance with other stakeholders and it was decided that the verdict will be announced today,” said Robert Mkwezalamba, chairman of the Human Rights Commission.

The Department of Immigration and Citizenship Services also attended the meeting that summoned Harper last week.

Harper’s troubles all started when another expat, Pennie Ginn, posted on a Facebook forum for expats, complained about losing a good domestic worker in Gloria Misesa if she relocates to another duty station.

Many responded to her comments but Harper’s comments reeked of racism.

“Hey why don’t you take your slave with you? Just a thought,” was Harper’s response.
