Having visited some registration centres in Salima Central Constituency, Malawi Electoral Commission (Mec) Chairperson Jane Ansah was far from impressed with the low number of people participating in the registration exercise.

In an interview at Kaphatenga Primary School after the tour, Ansah pointed out that this could disturb the commission’s intended plan of registering more than 200,000 voters in the district for the 2019 tripartite polls.

“As a Commission, we are not happy…we hope things will change come next week during the last days of the registration exercise here in Salima,” she said.

She nonetheless remained optimistic, saying they will mobilise community radio stations in the district to come up with jingles encouraging people to register.

Monitors for Malawi Congress Party, Democratic Progressive Party, and United Democratic Front encouraged the commission to continue providing civic education to the citizenry.
