Inkosi ya Makosi M’mbelwa V of Mzimba District has been nominated to watch the Fifa World Cup final in Russia on July 15.
M’mbelwa has earned the trip to Russia courtesy of Zondwayo Mgemezulu, brother in-law to Manson Gondwe, who won the grand prize of Zampira Promotion, which TNM runs.
Spe aking dur ing the handover ceremony of a dummy air ticket and match ticket in Mzimba on Wednesday, Gondwe said he could not travel to Russia on health grounds and opted for Mgemezulu to represent him.
The rules of the promotion stipulate that a winner of the World Cup trip can travel with a person of their choice; hence, Mgemezulu settled for M’mbelwa.
“I am overwhelmed. I could have loved to watch the World Cup final live but I have a problem with my legs, so I chose my brother in-law to represent me. My in-law has, in turn, opted to travel to Russia with Inkosi ya Makosi,” said Gondwe, a Be Forward Wanderers and Brazil fan.
Mgemezulu applauded his in-law for offering him the chance.
“I have chosen to travel with Inkosi M’mbelwa V as a sign of respect. He is a big man in Mzimba. He is our father and being his subject, I thought I should be accompanied by such a man of integrity and dignity,” Mgemezulu said.
M’mbelwa said he was looking forward to watching the final, which will take place at the 81,000-capacity Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow.
“Let me thank the one who nominated me. He could have chosen to travel with his family members. It takes courage to give away such a huge offer. I really appreciate and accept this offer. I am very happy because I am a football fan. I am short of words,” M’mbelwa said.
In his remarks, TNM Regional Distribution Manager for the Northern Region, Yamikani Bakuwa, said the company will spend K15 million on the all-paid-for trip for the two people, who will depart on July 13 and return four days later.
Gondwe, who is a businessman, won the promotion during the final draw of the first component of the promotion on Monday.
He predicted correctly the result of a league game between Nchalo United and Silver Strikers.
