BY PETER KANJEREL:
Flames midfielder, Robert Ng’ambi, has said he is still devastated by Platinum Stars’ relegation from South Africa’s Absa Premier Soccer League (PSL).
Ng’ambi told South Africa’s Sowetan newspaper that he could have loved if his romance with Stars had continued, having spent seven years with the North West Province side.
But after their recent relegation to the National First Division, Stars left for Cape Town where the team has been renamed Cape Umoya United.
However, most Stars players’ future is uncertain as management has not explained their status with the club, with co-owner/ Coach, Roger de Sa, on holiday in Russia at the World Cup.
“Most of my teammates don’t know if they will be kept or let go. I just took some time off to get away from football. Since I started playing football, this has been the most stressful time I have had,” the 31-year-old Ng’ambi was quoted as saying.
“I was heartbroken because I have been with the team for seven years. My heart was with the club and they had been good to me. It’s really painful but, in time, I think it will be fine.”
A De Sa-led consortium bought the team from the Royal Bafokeng Nation in January.
With his Stars contract having expired last week, the Malawian is open to offers from other interested teams.
Ng’ambi did not respond to The Daily Times when asked about his possible next destination.
The playmaker was at Stars with Gerald Phiri Junior who has since been linked with a move to either Mamelodi Sundowns or Orlando Pirates.
