BY MPHATSO MALIDADI:

Promising boxer, Ruth Chisale, could finally realise her title aspirations, following an offer to face Nozipho Bell in an African Boxing Union (ABU) lightweight title fight on July 27 in South Africa.

The development comes after Chisale lost an opportunity to vie for two belts, Global Boxing Union and Women’s International Boxing Federation in Germany on June 16, due to her camp’s differences with a matchmaker.

Chisale said she was keeping her fingers crossed ahead of the 10-round contest against the South African.

The 21-year-old Malawian boxer, who can fight in three weight divisions, hopes the bout would become a reality.

“I hope that nothing will affect this fight. We have received the contract and we have accepted the offer,” she said, adding that she was frustrated by a continued lack of fights.

Chisale’s local manager, Steve ‘Mawenzi’ Msiska, said time was ripe for Chisale to realise her dream.

Chisale, 21, has 10 wins, including six knockouts, and a defeat whereas Bell has seven wins, including three knockouts, a loss and a draw.

She is also the South African Female Super Featherweight champion.

Chisale’s compatriot, Anisha Bashir, holds the ABU super lightweight and Commonwealth lightweight titles.
