Masters Security FC owner, Alfred Gangata, has joined the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and will vie for the post of national director of youth during the ruling party’s convention scheduled for Sunday at Comesa Hall in Blantyre.

Gangata, who used to sponsor the Southern Region Football Association league, becomes the second TNM Super League team owner to join DPP after disbanded Epac United boss, Dean Josaya.

Gangata said he believes that combining sports, business and politics will be possible as he delegates some of his responsibilities.

“I have people around me and I have developed the spirit of teamwork with them. If I know that I am unable to carry out a certain task, I ask them to do it for me. I have managed to run football while also taking care of my business. So, it will not be difficult to combine with politics,” he said.

Gangata said he will use the experience he has gained from running football to transform DPP’s youth structures.

“I have committed myself to work with President Mutharika in uplifting the lives of the youth. I will work towards finding new ways of empowering the youth to contribute towards the development of the country, and not just painting themselves in party colours. Our youth deserves better,” Gangata said.

Current DPP National Director of Youth is Blantyre Misesa Ward Councilor, Lewis Ngalande, who is yet to register his intention to defend it.

Ngalande is also an influential member of the Saulos Chilima Movement.
