Karonga United duo ruled out

Karonga United will be without two key players when hosting Silver Strikers in a TNM Super League first-round match Sunday.

Karonga Coach Christopher Nyambose confirmed that striker Anthony Mfune and defender Lusekero Malema are sitting for Malawi School Certificate of Education examination.

Nyambose said the absence of the duo was a blow as his team is struggling to score.

“This is a big blow to our team. We have many players who can replace them but the two are instrumental. Anthony has scored many goals for us and Lusekero is also our first-choice defender. Anyway, we will see what we can do,” Nyambose said.

He further attributed the ninth-placed team’s current struggles to lack of experienced players.

Mfune and Malema did not feature in Karonga’s home game against TN Stars on Saturday as they were preparing for examinations.

Karonga have played five games at home, registering a win, three draws and a loss.

Away, Karonga have played six games, winning one, two defeats and three draws.
