Tazizwa Arnold, Kia’s Official Match Ball Carrier (OMBC) for the Morocco versus Iran match at the ongoing World Cup, returned from Russia on Wednesday with plenty of memories.
The 10-year-old, who won the Carry Your Dream competition which Kia organised, travelled to Russia on June 12 where he was among OMBCs from different countries.
Speaking on arrival, Tazizwa said the lifetime experience motivated him to pursue a professional football career, adding that the atmosphere in Russia was positively overwhelming due to the World Cup.
“It was exciting being in Russia at such a big stadium to represent Malawi” Arnold said, adding that he met Morocco Captain Medhi Benatia.
The boy’s mother said competitions like the one which Kia hosted, through HTD Limited, can open many doors for Malawi youths.
HTD Business Developing Manager, Bena Aboobaker, said the company strives to open bigger doors through such competitions and more.
At the World Cup, African teams are struggling. Morocco lost by 1-0 margins to Iran and Portugal whereas Russia defeated Egypt 3-1, days after the Pharaohs were beaten 1-0 by Uruguay.
Senegal are the only African team to, so far, win at the competition after beating Poland 2-1 on Tuesday.
Portugal beat Morocco through Cristiano Ronaldo’s goal which made the talisman the all-time top goalscorer in European football history with 85 goals.
