Cosafa Cup habitual winners and holders, Zimbabwe, meet their eternal rivals, Zambia, in the final tomorrow after seeing off stubborn Lesotho and Madagascar, respectively, in semi-final matches played at New Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane City, South Africa, on Wednesday evening.
As was the case in the quarter-final win over Namibia, Zimbabwe needed the heroics of towering goalkeeper George Chigova, who saved two post-match penalties to finally break the resistance of the Crocodiles with a 3-1 win following a goalless 90 minutes.
Playing earlier at the same venue, Lazarus Kambole’s close range finish after quick-silver one-twos was all Zambia needed to breach Madagascar’s otherwise water-tight defence.
Madagascar meet Lesotho in a third-place play-off today.
In a post-match interview, Zambia interim Coach, Beston Chimbeshi, said: “Of course, finishing was not good. We wanted to finish the game in the first-half but we wasted many chances.”
In another match scheduled for today, hosts South Africa’s Bafana Bafana date Botswana in the Plate final.
